What stops you from believing in Jesus?

What stops you from believing in Jesus?

We all know the story (layman terms)… A virgin girl (Mary) miraculously gets pregnant, she has a child (Jesus) and then, over time, it becomes apparent that her child, is the one whom God sent, to save us all from condemnation and Hell.

John 3:16-17

“For God so loved the world he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”

When you look at the verse above contextually, it states that, if you BELIEVE in Jesus, then you “shall not perish, but have eternal life”. This implies that to receive eternal life, you must first believe in Jesus Christ.

The English Oxford Dictionary says the word ‘Believe’, means to; “Accept that (something) is true, especially without proof.” Throughout our reading, we also learned that the word ‘Believe’ itself, is a verb (or in other words a doing word). This means that to believe in Jesus you must first do something – Choose to accept Jesus. Once you actively make that choice and then start living out that choice; you ultimately begin to see the proof that He is the truth.

Matthew 5:8 (MSG)

“You’re blessed when you get your inside world – your mind and heart – put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.”

In other versions of this verse from Matthew, the phrase; “pure in heart” is used. The Message version seems to express this in the best manner, though: Once you get everything within you, right – by choosing to believe – you will then start seeing God working on the outside – through circumstance or even in the physical.

So, our question is, What are the things that happen in life, that stop people from making such a choice?
