Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV)
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
– As the Christmas period approaches, life – for some of us, can become stressful and extremely difficult. Monetary strain can cause a number of issues for us at this time and the added pressure of creating ‘the perfect Christmas’, can all become too much!
A number of studies over the years, have shown that things like incidents of Domestic Violence and Suicide attempts, increase around Christmas time – usually as a direct effect of the stress we feel and sometimes, put on ourselves.
This verse found in Hebrews 12, speaks to us personally – we take it as a reminder of what we should be looking to, especially at this time of year – Jesus Christ.
Fix your eyes on Him! Don’t get bogged down with the media’s expectation of how Christmas should look and remember how He endured the cross, for us.
Do not grow weary or stressed or lose heart, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” Consider Him!
